Day 75 Personal Power

What does personal power have to do with this? Everything. Who do you give your power to? When you give in to someone else's wishes, desires or demands, when you allow someone else to control you in any way, when you say, feed me, heal me, support me emotionally, mentally or physically. You are giving your power away.
Some people find it easier to give their power away than to own their own power. It may feel easier to say feed me, heal me, support me than to do it yourself. Heck, most people do this. And so we have codependency and unhappy relationships. The truth is, no one can feed you, heal you or support you in the manner that you can for yourself. Why? Because no one loves you as much as you love yourself. And that is the way it should be. You know the commandment "Love the Lord Thy God with all thy heart and love others as you love yourself"? You are supposed to love yourself at least as much as you love others. But we don't love ourselves very much do we! In fact we love everybody else far more than we love ourselves. And because we don't love ourselves very much we let other people take over where we should be in control. We feed the needs and desires of other people and put our own on the back burner. And after a while we start to resent those people we are feeding because we are starving and we think that it is their fault. But it is not their fault.
Everyone is out there trying to get the best for themselves. Your kids are looking out for themselves. Your husband is trying to get what he needs. Your parents are trying to get what they need. And instead of you trying to get what you need, you are out there giving everybody what they need, what they ask for, what they desire. Guess what. They will get what they need whether you are the giver or not. The point is, who is getting you what you want?
If you need healing, you will find the very best and easiest to get healing, right inside you. If you need love, the very greatest and freest love is right inside you. If you need support, you can support yourself. If you need food, you know how to work for food. When you understand that loving yourself and caring for yourself is the only job you have, your life suddenly, and I do mean suddenly, becomes a joy to live! You are not responsible for Mom and Dad and Junior and hubby. You are only responsible for you! So much easier! And then you can start to really love yourself, to be kind to yourself, to care for your needs, your desires, your wishes. Believe me, no one else can really do it for you. They can try and you can ask but no one can do it like you can. And don't worry about hubby and junior. They will continue to take care of themselves. They may beg or plead because you turned off your easy access faucet but they will either turn on their own ever present Source and do it for themselves or they will find someone else they can leech off. They don't need to leech off you. It is not good for them anyway. They need to learn to love themselves too.
You know, this life is short. I would hate to see you leave without learning that you can love yourself and give yourself everything you need to be happy, absolutely joyous. Wouldn't you like to try it once before you go? Isn't that perhaps the lesson you are here to learn, the thing you came here to experience? Loving yourself

Day 67 The River Of Life

Catching Up with Your Life
by Shaman Elder Maggie Wahls
(Email: shaman@shamanelder.com)

Welcome to the river of life! You have an inner tube to float along in. It is yours and will never be taken away from you. Float with me down this river of life. We can't see where the river is going, we can't see around the next bend, but look there over you head, grab that fruit off the overhanging branch and taste the gifts of the river. There are many more branches with all kinds of delicacies here in the river.
Look at all those who float along with us! Honest people, healers, good people who want to float here and experience life and live their lives to the fullest.
Here comes a boulder in the water. You will just float around it, don't worry about the obstacles, they come and they go but you are in your inner tube and always safe.
The river is quickening now. People are saying there are rapids up ahead. Some people are trying to climb out of the river. Look at them holding on to the boulders, clinging to them, fighting against the water. Some are scrambling up the river banks standing still watching the river of life go by them. They look sad don't they, and scared to ride this river.
But we are not scared! We go through the rapids like a great Disneyland adventure! We come out the other side just fine even if we got a little wet and we see more gifts hanging on branches over the water we can easily reach. The people on the river banks can't reach these gifts from there. They must get back into the river if they want these gifts. Let’s holler to them! "Come on! The water is fine! You are safe here! You belong here! We will be with you! Come on in!" Maybe one will come out of his or her rut, back to living life and we will be happy about that.
I hear the rushing of a water fall, do you? Oh boy, hang on! This will be a big adventure! Swoosh! Over we go tumbling around and bobbing back up, laughing and quite wet indeed! What an adventure that was! We are safe throughout this ride and we know it, no matter what happens.
We know there are more bends in the river but we don't know what they will bring. We know there are more boulders in the river but we know not to cling to them. We don't need to. We know other people are standing on the river banks too scared to travel this river of life freely the way we do. We feel sad that they can't do it. It is their choice.
We know that will be other branches along the river offering us precious gifts and we need to stay in the river to reach them.
Where does this river go? Eventually when our time has passed, it takes us to a golden sea where all the other souls can be found in peace and joy and harmony. I can't wait to get there myself! But we have to ride the river until we get there. So in the meantime I am loving this inner tube, this river, this ride and experiencing it for all I am worth. I am glad you are here beside me!

Day 46 Traditional Shamanism as a Career

To be a Shaman is to practice Shamanism 24/7. You cannot be called a Shaman unless you practice it 24/7. It is a way of life, a way of living, a calling, an occupation much like a doctor or priest or Buddhist monk. Remember the old horse doctor with his little black bag who went from house to house bringing healing to the community? He was on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week. He was called upon to heal all kinds of things from chicken pox, to difficult childbirth to cancer to broken bones and everything he had to heal with was in that little black bag. This is the life of the Shaman.
The Shaman is available to everyone everywhere she goes, she is always healing, always counseling, living her life as an example to others to show the way to live in peace and health. She carries her medicine bag with a few leaves and stones and feathers and in that bag she has everything she needs to heal broken hearts, help cancer victims, heal chicken pox, whatever kind of healing she is called upon to bring. The healing is not in the black bag anyway is it! Those are just the tools. The healing is carried in the heart and mind of the doctor.
Shamanism is like becoming a doctor or a priest or a Buddhist monk. The ways of living and being are all conditioned by this career path and the true Shaman no longer lives like an ordinary man any more. Any true Shaman you encounter will definitely not be an ordinary man or woman and that will be apparent from the very first moment you meet them.  You will notice that he or she is light hearted, balanced, aware of everything you cannot even perceive, in good health and not physically mentally or emotionally ill at all. The true shaman is a person who has already done the work to heal themselves completely and now has become an example to the world of what true health and love look like by their own example living it. Its not common to meet a true Shaman. In fact it is said there are only about 50 true Shamans left in the world today.

Day 41 What Causes Addictions?

I will give you what I find the answer this through working with people with addictions. We choose addictions because we are being controlled by outside forces and feel that we are no longer fully within our power. We want to be in control of ourselves. When we fully feel we are within our own power, we can live without addictions. But when we feel controlled by someone else, be that a spouse, a boss, a life situation, a norm given to us by society, well, from any place, we choose to smoke or drink or some other behavior that we do control, or at least feel we control. It is a bad way for us to regain some control over our own lives. No one is going to tell you that you can't have some coffee. You have freedom in coffee, you use it whenever you decide to use it, you have freedom of control over your coffee use, it is something you decide to do for yourself.
This might be a hard concept to grasp because it is quite hidden and we don’t like to look at control issues at all. And it seems like an addiction is not something you are controlling, and certainly not a good way to regain control over your own life. But that is what an addiction is. Sometimes as with alcohol, it is to escape from that outside control, to take control of yourself by drinking and hiding out from the control of others. It does not matter if one is really under the control of some outside force or not. It only matters if one feels as though he or she is under the control of some outside force.
Some people willingly give control away. They are not troubled by it. But some people feel robbed of themselves when under the control of outside forces. Their attempt to regain some kind of control over their own lives is to begin a habit that they fully control, often an addictive habit.
So are these people just an addictive personality type? I don't think so. These people are just more sensitive to their own sense of freedom and choose not to be controlled by outside forces. Yet they are controlled. How to break the habit? Find out what is controlling you and get away from it.

Day 35 What about Ouija Boards

 What about Ouija Boards
An Excerpt from “The Shaman Speaks” by Shaman Elder Maggie
All that we see here is only 5% of the total energies around us; the slowest vibrating energies are the ones we can see with our eyes. These beings live in the other 95% we aren't normally aware of. And that 95% is the part that you are contacting with a Ouija Board.

I think it is important to be aware of this scientific fact, to use your own abilities to become aware of all the energies around you and to know that there are high vibration energetic beings who wish to help you and lower vibration energetic beings who care nothing about you, and even lower vibration energetic beings who wish to deplete your energy. This 95% is very much unknown to us in general and needs to be recognized, studied and respected just as we recognize, study and respect those things we see in our physical world. How very limiting of us to assume that what we see is all there is!

We have so much science now to back this up. We know how the moon affects even our emotions! We can't "see" that energy but we all agree it is there. What else is out there affecting us? From a Shaman's point of view, there is so much more here than just what I see with my eyes. Be aware of it, learn about it safely and carefully. I teach about it so people don't go running in headlong like a lemming leaping off a cliff. It is a fascinating study, not taught in too many places yet, but needs to be approached with awareness of the inherent dangers as there are inherent dangers in this physical world all around us. A Ouija Board is an open invitation to the astral world. I don’t recommend their use whatsoever. There are better, safer ways to travel the astral world.

Day 31 Your Medicine Bag.

Every Shaman through time and space has carried some kind of medicine bag.  I have a very small leather pouch maybe one inch long and 1/2 inch wide on a leather thong strap that I wear around my neck under my clothes. You would have to look hard to see the leather necklace around my neck. No one has ever noticed it or asked about it because I don't show it off or draw attention to it. It is no one's business but mine. You could carry it in your pocket if you could not wear it. But I feel it should be close to your heart, to your essence.
Inside is my own personal medicine as well as medicines I am practiced in using. Select carefully and with guidance what you wear around your neck. You are responsible for each item in your medicine bag. You are charged with the duty to wear them respectfully, to honor their power and to use them only for healing yourself and others with their permission. You become the carrier of their power. That is a big responsibility.
Gather your items slowly. I have been gathering my medicine bag all my life. Right now I am going through a major transition so I have added a piece of moonstone to my medicine bag. You can look up moonstone if you want to know why I have added that.
Your medicine bag says everything about you, who you are, who you are as a healer, how you heal, how powerful you are, who your allies are, what your power is. It becomes a finger print of you, the shaman.
Your medicine bag contains all the power of the items in it. Those items are given to you, not selected by you. It is a holy thing.  It is medicine for you! I make custom medicine bags for people if you ever want me to make one for you. Just go to http://www.shamanelder.com/invitation.htm

Day 24: How Much Time Do You Have?

The Yaqui people of Mexico tell us about four things that are enemies of the Shaman and the fourth one is - that by the time we find the knowledge we seek and the empowerment we need, we are too old to do anything with it. And I find that to be true. So how much time do you have? The Yaquis also tell us that death walks by our left side all the time, close enough to reach out and touch us at any moment. Rather than fear what will indeed happen to all of us, the Shaman learns to walk in this knowledge that he may not be here tomorrow. And so he makes all he can out of today. It is called impeccability. Being all you can be, doing all you can do, loving all you can love and walking as far as you can walk each day.

Day 17: The Hunter in the Forest

Here is a truth for you to consider. When you finally see your mission on this earth and you decide to stand up and do it, to shine your light, there will always be those who hate the Light and who will try to put it out. Guaranteed.

I teach you Traditional Shamanism using the allegory of the hunter in the forest. He knows his skills, he uses his power, his awareness, his balance, his good aim, his heightened senses, his patience, his knowledge of game, all his skills to achieve his mission which is to feed his people. And he knows that there is danger in the forest. He knows that if he does not remain aware and balanced he could fall out of the tree and be killed by a bear or moose. The danger is there for all of us. But it is not so dangerous that a skilled and practiced hunter should withhold food from his people because he is afraid of the bear!

The bear is as natural to the forest as the hunter. They both belong in the forest and they both are a danger to each other. Everything has danger. It is dangerous to breathe, all the pollution in the air but more dangerous not to breathe, methinks! LOL!

You saw your mission and agreed to it before you ever set foot on this planet. You saw that you would have all the abilities and tools and opportunities to accomplish this mission. In fact you saw that if you just be impeccable as a human being you have already accomplished this mission, fete accompli! So being born into this mission is like being put into a tree stand in the forest. Be impeccable and you will not fail. Do not fear.
Please ask me anything. I offer free counseling to anyone by email to shaman@shamanelder.com
