"Humans
are alive, of course, but they are not living: most of the time, all you can
say is that they are keeping busy. They don’t realize that the numerous
activities in which their days are spent cause them to forget to live.
To live is to breathe, to take in food, to walk,
sleep, move, speak, and so on. But who will admit there is anything to be
learned from such activities, anything they had never thought of? Who is
willing to say, ‘It’s true: I breathe, I eat, I walk, I use my hands… but how
do I do these things? Is there anything there I could do better if I were more
aware? For, every moment of the day, divine life itself is being expressed
through me.’"

Mediumship or Shamanism?
When
mediums are asked to project themselves up to the higher realms of the
invisible world to respond to questions of a spiritual order, most of the time
they are not able to do so: their clairvoyance is always limited more or less
to the regions of the astral plane.
Well, clairvoyance that does not serve to elevate people- is of no interest to shaman practitioner students. This is why they do not focus on it. it is better to close the eyes as they cross those astral plane regions where all kinds of fantasy and intrusive influences can be found.
True Shamans do not seek to develop mediumistic faculties. They work only to purify themselves, to grow in wisdom, love and self-mastery, so that they can project themselves as high as possible towards the higher spiritual planes inwardly. Once they reach this peak, the substance of the Shaman's being is so refined it is aligned with the very quintessence of the universal Essence of Creator. This quintessence, in which everything is recorded, enables them to receive, see and feel whatever they wish to know. And so their work allows them to acquire not only power but clairvoyance as well.

The Value of a Mentor
The treasures gathered in dreams are useless, because dreams vanish in teh morning. The dreaming of cakes will not satisfy hunger or keep a starving man alive. If you practice incorrectly you are only building empty wishes on illusion.
A teacher is essential to learning anything.
"Not knowing what a Master can represent for them, some disciples do not know how to behave towards him. So they prevent him from being as useful to them as he could be and would like to be, thus hindering their own development. It is up to the disciple to discover how to relate to the Master, how to regard him and behave towards him. It is not for the Master to make recommendations on the matter.
A true Master merely gives his teaching and allows his disciples freedom. He will never say, ‘You must respect me, admire me, obey me…’ Never. Firstly, because there is no point: you can never really impose respect, admiration or obedience. Then, because the Master does not need those things: he has other sources of joy and satisfaction. It is up to the disciples, for their own evolution, to find the best way to be in relation to their Master, whether he is still on earth or in the next world."
Some students do not know how to behave with their teachers because they do not realize what that teacher can represent for them. In this way the student might prevent the teacher from being as useful as that teacher could be and would like to be. And in this way the student can hinder his or her own progress. It is up to the student to figure out how to relate to the teacher and how to behave. It is not up to the teacher to explain that relationship to the student.

Why?
A true teacher just offers the teachings and respects the free will of the student. A true teacher would never say, "you must respect me, honor me, obey me." The true teacher doesn't need these things anyway. The true teacher has other sources of joy and satisfaction. It is up to the student to find the best way to be in relationship with the teacher, for that student's own evolution in spiritual growth.
The five senses atrophy in those who lead an ordinary, mundane life. Those with a spiritual outlook, on the other hand, can sense the nuances and subtleties of beings and things. Not only are they not deprived of any joys, they actually increase the pleasures they are able to experience and heighten their quality.
Please see the encouragement that is always offered in every teaching I give. I mentor people who wish to learn Traditional Shamanism, the path I have been walking for almost 60 years now. To learn more go here www.shamanelder.com

Those Who Don't Walk Get Eaten.
What kinds of goals do people have today? Perhaps to have a family or a career or a car and house with all the modern conveniences. For a lot of people, that is enough. They say they are satisfied with this mediocre existence. They don't enhance their lives with anything other than physical pleasures, with anything more essential, more powerful. They simply stagnate.
When will people realize the dangers that they put themselves in with they live their lives unaware of what else is here beyond just the physical? There are all kinds of physical and psychological dangers lying in wait, looking for ways to sneak in and bite into people and eat away at them. Have you ever felt there were other things beyond the physical threatening your life? I bet you have! And what have you done to learn about those dangers?
How sad that people do not realize that here is a whole other 95% here that cannot be perceived with one's outer senses but that very much does effect therm physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. This is what I teach you about in the course I offer as I learned it from my own Shaman teachers in my own family. Do not let yourself be put to sleep and chloroformed by petty entertainments. The time is coming when the need to survive and negotiate through the dangers will be more important to you than a house or car. Will you be ready for that?

Anguish
Whoever has heard the music of the spheres as I have, even one time, will understand the earthly imperfections caused by the present conditions of humanity. As you become more and more aware of the differences between the spiritual Beauty of the Cosmos and the conditions of earthly reality, you may experience attacks of anguish which are unavoidable. Fight consciously against these attacks. Become a a warrior first within yourself. This is what I teach at www.shamanelder.com.
I really want to give you the knwoledge to live this life in power and deliberate intention. I choose to give my life in service to you , to teach you the ancient ways of my own family lineage that have never been written down before today. The old ways were based on truth and it is this truth I offer you in my online course.
Whre there is fear, self pity, conceit, passitivity, avoidance of duty, lack of generosity, irresponsibility- there you find a false spirituality. Beware of those teachers who possess these characteristics. Beware of soothsayers and mediums and fortune tellers who display these qualities. Please, please protect yourself at least.
Those who venture into the astral world without an understanding of spiritual ascent must know how responsible they are for the polluting of energetic space. Please be careful! It is not only you in danger here but your children and your children's children as well.
Many of the hereditary diseases are caused by this same pollution. Look at the amount of hereditary diseases found in the families of psychics, mediums and fortune tellers. Let that be your proof of how they are affected by the pollution they create.

First: Sit down. Find room enough to draw a circle around yourself out
the length of your arms. So you are probably sitting on the ground.

Day 96 The End of The World
I hate to tell you but the end of the world will never get here. It never has. One thing that never changes is the change inherent in every created thing., no matter whether it is good change or bad change, and that is just based on somebody p[perspective anyway. Since change is a constant in this reality, the every moment is a beginning and an ending. Everything travels on a circle. Where do you measure the start of a circle?
We just keep going on this linear circle we have named time. It never begins and it never ends and we never begin and we never end. That’s right. We are eternal spiritual begins just having a short physical life experience here in this body, this temporary vehicle. But did you think you went somewhere else when this body wears out and quits? This life experience is only one of many states of being. When you leave your body you are experiencing another state of being. We are eternally experiencing an unknown number of states of being.
So where are we going? We are not going anywhere at all. Its like being shot off into space in a space capsule. Once launched , there is no way out. So you have a choice here. You can sit there and worry and feel bad or you can enjoy the adventure. I recommend the Shaman’s Way – enjoy this moment now!

Day 95 The Eyes Have It
In my native tradition there are varying levels of skills or abilities for each Shaman. But every shaman has tarni which are like mantras or special words or chants that contain healing power or are words which call in the power of helper spirits. A helper spirit may be a tree or a stone or a bird or something that is not manifested physically here but is in allegiance already with that Shaman from a long ongoing relationship. A Shaman apprentice is often given a special stick or staff to carry early in his or her education and it becomes the Shaman's horse or reindeer in the non manifested reality. It is taken care of and a special relationship is formed with that staff. The staff can then help the Shaman in healing work in later years. The Shaman has just one staff all her life and is usually buried with this staff. To gain possession of a dead Shaman's staff is believed to cause the death of the possessor.
Ab is the word used to explain the power of the Shaman as a healer.
Huch refers to the Shaman's spiritual strength.
Tsog describes the shaman's psychic abiltiies or chi force.
Because the Shaman's tsog is sometimes seen as fire or lightning or sparks from that Shaman's eyes, it is considered disrespectful and even dangerous to look a Shaman in the eyes, directly. The eyes are considered a window to ones soul. The Shaman can often diagnose soul loss by looking into a person's eyes. And evil can be seen there and attach itself to someone from there, too. It is believed by my people, possible for an evil person to take your soul from you by looking into your eyes. Some people steal the energy of other people by looking into their eyes. So I was taught to be very careful about whose eyes I made contact with, to be sure it was someone good and trustworthy. We also see this same belief in Native American traditions. You might want to be careful about who you make eye contact with for these very good reasons. You just learned why people bow their heads when in the presence of power!

Day 78 The Meaning of Aloha
A = AO
L = LOKAHI
O = OIAIO
H = HA'A HA'A
A = ALOHA
As a way of living in harmony with yourself and the whole world. Grab your surfboard and take a ride now.
A = AO Light - i, the light of the sun shining down on the islands and on you. In ancient terms the A in Aloha are about awareness: awareness of our place in nature, our loving relationships with our fellow brothers and sisters, our interconnectedness in this web of life. When you have the spirit of Aloha you are like a child in the playgound of love, fully in the moment, fully present to all the goodness and blessings, beauty and joy around you. Paddle out in the beautiful sunlight and get ready for a great wave to come up behind you. Be watching for it as you get a tan with your fellow surfers. You have to be aware!
L = LOKAHI Oneness. Being in the wave, riding it along with everything else in the wave. The unity of everything and your part in this unity. You can feel this unity on the islands so very strongly. It requires and openess and honesty that children are so famous for. Speaking your truth and respecting the truth of all brings this unity to the forefront. You are moving in this wave and letting it propel you towards the shore lined with palm trees. You can ride freely when you are one with this wave.
O = OIAIO I'O = Truth. Feeling the energy of the wave as strong and true. Recognizing this energy of nature's truth we can learn from it and how to use it in our own lives. There is an honesty that pervades the islands. You can't live there long without facing your own deceptions and dealing with them. This is the spirit of aloha, being truthful with yourself. Do you think you have no power? Do you believe that you can't change your life for the better? Come into this wave of nature, into the territory of Madame Pele and feel truth all around you. It is bound to show you what you can really do if you choose. You ride in your truth and you are better at it than you thought!
H = HA'A HA'A = Humility. And as we ride this great Hawaiian wave of power how can we not feel humble in the immense force pushing our sufrboards towards the shore! We are just little things in this incredible wave of life, love and abundance!
A = ALOHA Absolute, true love. That beautiful touch of Divine essence permanently installed in each one us.

Day 66 The Four Enemies of the Shaman Part 4: Old age
Each of us truly believes that we are somehow never going to die. We are somehow immortal. No one thinks about their death, no one thinks that maybe today is the last day on earth. But it could just be true that right now some Iranian who’s job it is to watch over the launch pad button for their nuclear missiles just bumped the fire button with his foot as he was getting up to go to the john and right now those nuclear missiles are headed straight for your country and will be here in less than ten minutes. We don’t know that this isn’t true, do we? So what are you doing believing that you will still be here tomorrow? Are you fooling yourself? Do I hear you saying, “ I am never going to die!!! I have all the time in the world! I can put this off till tomorrow. I can build my boat tomorrow. I have lots of time! Lets watch that TV show now! And the next one and the next one!” No I tell you that your time here is short . You do not have a lot of time to build this boat. In fact if you don’t have it built by the end of this course then you are not going with me to the other side. I say this to keep you from procrastinating.
Now there is another side of this enemy that says, “Oh you are too old to even begin to build a boat now! Why not just give up and go watch TV”. And there is a side to this enemy that says, “You are too tired to build your boat today, and today, and today, and today.” And there is a side to this enemy that makes sure you are just too busy to build your boat, too much going on, too many places to go, run the kids to activities, work overtime, make dinner go to scouts, etc, etc. Am I saying that you might have to rearrange parts of your life to be able to build this boat? I sure am saying that! Just how hungry are you to reach that other shore?
You see this enemy is definitely here to keep you from walking any closer to your spiritual freedom. This enemy is the worst one of all I think,. Every one here has felt the claws of this enemy already in these courses. It is so easy to succumb to this more powerful enemy, old age, tiredness and death.
But if you accept the gifts you receive in taking responsibility for balance in your life (Course 101, lesson two) and you act on the discipline of humor, your spiritual self can dance with joy at the fact that, in this moment, you CAN build your boat! You can work on you! You can give this moment to adding another plank or weaving another rope for your own journey to the land across the huge lake where Creator will reward you for your efforts.
Every shaman has to make this journey. It is not easy. It is called an initiation in some cultures, a test in some cultures, a blessing and gift in other cultures. But you must build this boat and sail it across this wide lake if you want to get to the place where Creator bestows shamanic gifts on those who are willing to dedicate themselves to this great work.
Old age/death is fought by having the discipline of humor and the responsibility for balance in your life.
There you are!

Day 45 The Suffering of Not Spiritually Growing
There is a tempting force, a negative force in life that opposes Spirit. It is the force of non growth, standing still, immobility. Whatever ceases to change and transform itself decays and perishes. It is a Law of the Universe. This death in Life for human beings can be translated as spiritual sterility. A person who has let the roots of Life, in the deepest part of himself, perish, fall into the power of negating force. This crime against life, Goethe says, is a crime against salvation, your salvation.
This course is like a river. I give you an inner tube and you climb in and begin going down this new river and you see things on the shore that look like you and your life, and you see other people waving at you, they are your guides and teachers and they are glad to see you here! And you find fruit hanging off branches over your head as you glide by and eat plums and peaches on your ride, savor them. You are riding your own river and at the end in lesson 10 11 and 12 the river opens out on to a beautiful lake that you will call home. Now if you choose to, you can grab a branch and stop the ride or grab a rock and hang on or get out of the inner tube and stand on the bank. These are all your choices. But there is no need to. You are safe and you are seeing you and coming into your own power, the power of the river.
I see you standing on the bank watching things floating by in your river, and saying yes, that is mine, and that is mine and that is mine, yep they are right there. But you are not in the river! Your life is going by while you stand on the river bank watching it go! This course invites you get in the river within the safety of your inner tube and actually be in the river, flowing along, observing you and learning your power and your skills and your abilities that are right in the inner tube right in your mind and heart now, and you might discover that some of the things that you saw in your river while standing on the river banks are just reflections of things that are on the riverbank. Think about it. Things and experiences and people that you see as you pass along floating in the river of you!
Let yourself flow in the river created by this course. let yourself take what resonates, try the exercises, don't sweat anything, be still and calm and relax.
You have an inner tube you are floating on in the river. You are completely protected! From what? Protected from losing yourself in the hubbub of life, from not being yourself, from not being loved, from not getting where you are meant to go. Is that enough protection for you?

Day 37 The Raven from My Shaman Grandmother’s Perspective.
The Raven from My Shaman Grandmother’s Perspective.
In my Shaman Grandmother’s tradition the Raven was not a welcome being. The raven was a carrier of death and bad news, a feeder on carrion and feces and so weak that even a mouse coud defeat it. My ancestors felt it was brought here by Creator to be a disrupter, a bringer of chaos, to keep us on our toes and to teach us awareness and make us take our guard. In Siberia there is a place where it is said that the Great Raven, his wife Miti and his family lived and you can see black rocks on the cliffs called the house and pots and pans.
If you think about the raven in the forests of Siberia, my people would take the reindeer into the forests in the winter time to stay out of the cold winds and to hide the reindeer from predators like wolves and hunters. But those pesky ravens might come and alert the wolves to the presence of the reindeer and the people in the forest. It is not a far leap to then understand why the ancient peoples felt the raven was not a friendly thing. In my grandmothers traditions everything is sentient, living, thinking, feeling and not necessarily only what it looks like on the outside. So every time a raven appeared by the herd of reindeer, so too did the wolf show up and the hunters showed up and all hell broke loose. There was a saying that if a raven flew into your yurt, you might as well just slaughter your whole herd!
My point is that when we look at ancient legends or superstitions or beliefs we have to try to place our feet into their circumstances, into their way of life and see why they might have believed that to be true. I think if you had grown up as a reindeer herder and spent the winter huddled in a Siberian forest with reindeer as your only means of warmth or food or clothing you might not like the raven so much either!
The Shaman would sometimes go far away from the tribe and leave prayers and offerings of grain after building a wooden kind of scarecrow man hoping to relegate the raven to that area away from the tribe. So actions were taken by the Shaman to keep the raven from visiting the tribe. I wonder if that is where we got the idea of a scarecrow for keeping the birds away from our fields!

Day 36 A student asked me the other day “So why am i tired so much, then? “
You are tired so much for 3 reasons.
1. 1. Your life is too full of things to do each day. You try to pack more stuff into your to do list than you are capable of doing. Know your limitations and throw out some of the stuff on your to do list. Simplify your life and make sure to create some room for spiritual work and spiritual growth each day. This lifetime is a really short hiccup in the length of your eternal life. Don’t forget that you are an eternal spiritual being having a physical life experience. This life experience is just a vacation for that non manifest self that you will always be so lets make this little vacation a benefit to your eternal self.
2. You give your energy, your life force, your chi away too easily. You think you are benefitting others by giving them the very life force that Creator gave you to be able to live out a long healthy life here. You are killing yourself by giving away the chi that you need to live on. Everybody was given enough chi to live on. You do not need to give people your chi.
3. You do not receive fully from Creator. You only let in a little of Creator’s love and Light and blessings and nourishment and then you cut your Source off.
Now you know why you are tired. What are you going to do about it. Answer me that at shaman@shamanelder.com
